Discover Philadelphia's Murals in a Whole New Way

The Mural Explorer is an award-winning interactive multimedia experience that allows users to explore and, for the first time, fully experience the beautiful mural art of Philadelphia.

Each Mural Arts Program (MAP) mural is the result of a collaborative community process in which artists, residents, and students come together to beautify their community and tell their stories. But this inspiring process is invisible to every day passersby, who only see the mural itself (or whatever is visible of it from a street side vantage).

So, tapped by the MAP, Bluecadet created the Mural Explorer, a platform for curating these murals and sharing their stories with Philadelphia. Built in Flash, the Explorer is a beautifully designed, intuitively navigable interactive. Users can zoom in to view the tiniest details (things they would never see from the ground), learning facts and hearing anecdotes as they explore. Points of interest are plotted on the murals and each is augmented by video, making-of photos, and audio clips.

About the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia

The MAP is well regarded as one of the nation’s largest and most effective public arts programs. In its over 25 year history, MAP has created over 3,000 murals and educated over 20,000 under-served youth throughout Philadelphia.
